6. Peanut butter should replace ordinary butter. Ordinary butter is rich in fat, but peanut butter is rich in protein and fiber, which will help quick weight loss. Protein will help you burn fat by building lean muscle mass, and fiber will help suppress your appetite for a long time period. It would be better to keep to the natural peanut butter and combine with wholegrain wheat.

7. Nuts and Seeds: All good diets contain 'good' fats and which supply your body with essential nutrients, such as fatty acids. Nuts and seeds are rich in fatty acids and protein and help you boost your metabolic rate and hence burn fat. Examples are Peanuts, almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts and pistachios.  Crush them into a fine powder and use as a coating instead of higher carb bread crumbs.  Nuts help to lower cholesterol.  Eat them right out of the shell with no additives.

8. Beans are great at suppressing your appetite as they are rich in fiber and keep you feeling full a long time. Also, Beans of all kinds (kidney, navy, lentils, chickpeas, Northern) are high in protein.  This is plant protein so it contains very little fat, carbs and calories.

9. Oatmeal helps to lower blood cholesterol levels.  Oatmeal is a filling grain that also provides much needed fiber to keep hunger at bay and your blood sugar constant.

Allium foods, such as garlic, onions, leeks and shallots are known for lowering cholesterol levels.  Allium vegetables help guard the body against the risk of cancer and amongst other ailments.  They also help lower blood pressure and prevent blood clots.  Eating these power packed vegetables in their natural state especially garlic increases their health benefits.

Flax seed, like salmon and other fish, contains omega-3 fatty acids, but these seeds also contain omega-6 and omega-9 fatty acids and are powerful in the fight against high cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes.  Ground flax seed can be added to a number of recipes such as, fruit smoothies, sprinkled in yogurt, eaten with cereal or added to pancake mix to name a few.

12. Peppers contain antioxidants like beta-carotene and Vitamin C.  All peppers, mild and hot, contain a substance called capsaicin, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory, a pain reliever, and helps lowers cancer risk and heart disease.  Great in salads, salsa and all sorts of dishes.

13. Yogurt: The Fat free variety is good for you.  Yogurt contains calcium, Vitamin B, and protein.  Yogurt is a great alternative to milk as it contains calcium, required for building strong bones and teeth.  Live yogurt also contains friendly bacteria to help promote a healthy digestive system.
